Abstract

Love as relevant aspect of a marriage was mentioned in the encyclical Casti connubii of Pius XI from 1930 for the first time, the Code of Canon Law did not mention it till then. The magisterium attended to the demands of society that claimed a new ecclesiastical understanding of sexuality and love – the sexual morality of the catholic church was then as now current and highly discussed. What has changed in canon law because of the encyclical? Has something changed at all?
