Erwiderung auf die Forderung des Synodalen Wegs nach der Laienhomilie

Abstract

The question of a "lay homily" during the celebration of the Eucharist has been raised for a long time; most recently, the "Synodal Way" demanded that this should be made possible. Seemingly, this only demands what has already been the practice in many parishes anyway. In view of other discussed demands, such as for "lay confession", the proclamation of the word of God by lay people in the Eucharistic celebration seems to be one of the points that are least problematic in terms of canon law and theology. However, the reservation of the homily to clerics is certainly theologically justified and thus less easily solved canonically than the synod members seemed to think.
